GCSE Science Revision: Radioactivity

GCSE Science Revision: Radioactivity

In this section, we look at radioactivity and its effects. We start by looking at how scientists investigated the structure of atoms and how they came up with the “nuclear model” which we use today. We then explore the idea of isotopes which are atoms of an element with different numbers of neutrons. Isotopes can be radioactive so we then go on to explore what is actually meant by radioactivity looking at alpha, beta and gamma radiation. We then explore the dangers behind radioactivity and what we can do to reduce these dangers. Finally, we take a look at how we measure the activity of isotopes using the idea of half-life.
